Candle Wedding Favors

Candles are probably a must have on your list & you are probably planning to include them with your table centers & to decorate your reception. They are a wonderful way to create ambience & a romantic atmosphere. They are also great for wedding favors.

But if you’re confused about the types of candles available here is a quick guide to help you.

Which kind of candle? Many commercially produced candles are made from paraffin wax which is produced from petroleum. If you are planning a green wedding then paraffin candles should not be high on your list. They are made from an unsustainable resource & they pollute the environment. If your candles produce black soot when lit, then they are made from paraffin.

Other options for the candles include the following:

· Beeswax candles – These are the best quality candles you can buy. They produce a sweet honey scent when lit & will burn for far longer than any other type of candle. Another benefit is they are clean burning, in fact when lit they actually clean the air around them, removing any harmful pollutants & impurities which may be in the room. They are the most expensive but worth the cost.

· Soy candles – Another clean burning candle with a long burn time. Many soy candles are enhanced with scented oils so they release a pleasant aroma when lit. Made from soybeans they come from a sustainable resource & as most of the world’s soybean production takes place in the US you will also be helping to support farmers by purchasing this type of candle.

· Other – Includes vegetable oil-based candles.

Candle Types:

· Tea Lights – This is the smallest candle size available & are usually presented in 1 ½” metal or plastic containers. Although small they are capable of burning for between 4 & 6 hours. You can get little decorative glass & metal holders for tea lights, which makes them a great choice for wedding favors.

· Votives – Larger than tea lights, votive candles are approximately 2 ½” tall & can burn for upto 15 hours. A votive candle will require some kind of holder to prevent wax dropping onto furniture. They also make lovely wedding favors when teamed with a decorative holder.

· Taper – The traditional style of candle seen in candelabras & candlesticks. Tall & thin, they come in a range of lengths & look amazing lit in a grand candelabrum at a wedding.

· Pillar – These are the largest & widest candles available & some may have more than one wick to lit in order to get them to burn. You will need a candle plate or holder to catch dripping wax.

· Novelty Candles – Novelty candles come in a range of shapes, forms & sizes & you will find a great many suited to wedding favors. Look out for ones that will suit your wedding style or theme.
